Flash Drought Response to Precipitation and Atmospheric Evaporative Demand in Spain

چکیده
Flash drought is the result of strong precipitation deficits and/or anomalous increases in atmospheric evaporative demand (AED), which triggers a rapid decline soil moisture and stresses vegetation over short periods time. However, little known about role AED development flash droughts. For this paper, we compared standardized index (SPI) based on precipitation, (EDDI) AED, evaporation (SPEI) differences between as indicators for mainland Spain Balearic Islands 1961–2018. The results show large spatial temporal patterns droughts indices. In general, there was high degree consistency identified by SPI SPEI, with exception southern summer. EDDI showed notable from winter summer, while it exhibited great coherence SPEI We also examined sensitivity to each month year explain its contribution possible Our findings that main driver Spain, although can play key these during low especially driest areas

Precipitation Response to the Gulf Stream in an Atmospheric GCM*
The precipitation response to sea surface temperature (SST) gradients associated with the Gulf Stream is investigated using an atmospheric general circulation model. Forced by observed SST, the model simulates a narrow band of precipitation, surface convergence, and evaporation that closely follows the Gulf Stream, much like satellite observations. Such a Gulf Stream rainband disappears in the ...
متن کاملREE behavior during evaporative precipitation in a severely affected-AMD creek (SW Spain)
The Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB) covers a vast part of the SW of Spain and Portugal. This region is rich in sulfide deposits which have been exploited intensively. As a consequence, there is a large number of sources of acid mine drainages, characterized by very extreme pH conditions and high pollution load. Waters affected by acid mine drainage (AMD) can contain high concentrations of rare earth ...
متن کاملStomatal response of an anisohydric grapevine cultivar to evaporative demand, available soil moisture and abscisic acid.
Stomatal responsiveness to evaporative demand (air vapour pressure deficit (VPD)) ranges widely between species and cultivars, and mechanisms for stomatal control in response to VPD remain obscure. The interaction of irrigation and soil moisture with VPD on stomatal conductance is particularly difficult to predict, but nevertheless is critical to instantaneous transpiration and vulnerability to...
متن کاملDrought Management Strategies in Spain
The ongoing debate on water policies in Spain is characterised by a traditional paradigm, dominated by the intervention on hydrological systems through the construction and management of infrastructure, which is progressively being abandoned but is currently still strong while the emergence of new management approaches. Climate change and the Water Framework Directive (WFD) are, in addition, th...
